Where can I learn to dance? Our classes are located in North Adelaide. We also offer private lessons for one on one tuition and groups. Do I need to be a dancer? Nope! Our Swing Intro classes are for total beginners. You don't need any experience. Most of the people who come to our classes are from a wide range of backgrounds, and most have bever danced before. And that's the great thing about it, you get to meet a cross section of society that you wouldn't normally meet. Teachers, scientists, IT professionals, artists, nurses, students, receptionists, medical professionals.....and the list goes on! I don't have a partner, can I still come? And can I meet singles there? You don't need a partner to come to our classes, as we rotate partners so you dance with everyone! This is the best way to learn, and it also means you get to meet a huge group of people, so if you're single it's a great place to meet people. Don't get us wrong, it's not a sleazy, dirty dancing type of vibe where people are hitting on eachother left right and centre. Swing dancing is a social dance, and it's normal to walk into an event that you've never been to before and ask someone to dance. Very different to asking someone to dance in a club! The pressure is off and you can be yourself, chat to people, and see where it takes you. I don't want to meet singles! I'm committed! Well, that's completely fine too! In fact, swing dancing is a fantastic thing to do for your marriage/relationship. It's something you can do together, whilst still being social and meeting new people. We have couples in our scene who have been coming out dancing together for years and years. How many hobbies do you know of that couples can stick at for so long and still enjoy it? What should I wear? Do I need fancy shoes? You can wear anything you feel comfortable in - most people just come in whatever they have been wearing for the day. We do like to get dressed up some times, but usually for special dance events. You don't need to wear a zoot suit or pencil skirt to class...but you can if you want to! For on your feet you definitely want something comfy - but thongs and other flimsy footwear probably won't cut it. You basically don't want something that will fly off your feet. Ladies, if you want to wear heels that's fine, but a low heel is probably best. Can I start at anytime? Yes! You can start Level 1 at any time. I've learned other dance styles. Can I skip your beginner classes? Sorry, no. As dance professionals ourselves we strongly believe in learning a new dance from it's foundation. Every dance is uniquely different and never more so then in the foundation and basic structure of the dance. We also teach basic moves like the Swing Out in our beginner classes, which is a requirement for heading into intermediate classes. |
